Thanks to your directions, I found them. You have a typical pattern of significant degenerative disc disease with height collapse of the discs at C5-7. This causes a tilt forward called a fixed kyphosis. The vertebra above at C4-5 is affected by this forward tilt as the facets are put under great stress and start to wear out. This C4-5 condition is called a degenerative spondylolisthesis due to kyphosis. The popping and grinding is typically due to the wear of the facets where the facet surface instead of being beautifully smooth is rough and undulating. The “catches” of these small ridges in the facets are what causes the noise and sensation of grinding.

Hi Dr.Corenman, Thank you so much for answering my questions for me. Dr.Corenman I have one more question to ask you. The wearing out of the Facets at C4-5 level is that causing the Mild to Moderate Instability that I have at the C4-5 level?

Thank you! Have a great weekend

Instability is a diagnosis, not a symptom. I assume you are asking about actual instability or the abnormal motion of C4 on C4 when you move your head. Yes, facet wear creates instability.
