Now I had another question for you Sir. I most definetly want to seek your office for my treatment. But there are issue’s with that as im in the military. First, will the Army fly me out to CO everytime you need to see me. And second…will they approve it…or just send me to a Closer Hospital like Loma Linda, in San Diego. As far as the penetrating disks…i dont understand it either Sir, I believe penetrating is herniated. But i will double check Sir. Either way…they seemed like it wasnt a big deal…and the Nurse practisioner…said she highly doubts it warrents Surgery. But somthing has to be done, because living like this is absolutly horrible.

    Thank you again Sir.

Hello everyone well its been 4 months and a few weeks since the last of 3 surgeries on my lumbar spine level L5-S1. It has not been a good road at all after the fusion surgery of this level on November 6, 2012. My back has not gotten any better its still very hard to get up out of bed and from sitting down. Movements are hard and painful as well the pain is becoming unbearable. I used to be able to walk a block without too many problems, but now its very painful and i have to sit down for 15-20 min to allow it to subside a-little. I was doing PT but a few weeks into PT i was doing half squats assisted with a pole and i sharp pain began to run across the front of my right thigh towards to medial side of my right leg down my calf and to the inner sole of my foot. On top of all that my left leg has on and off periods of radiculopathy. My doctor has asked me to do acupuncture but i do not feel that is the answer. I do feel however that there is something not right in my back which is causing me these issues. I looked to another doctor for a second opinion but so far no doctor will see me, all of them state you have had 3 back surgeries and you should remain with that doctor. I am at my wits end and don’t know what to do. Should i be feeling like this still, is this normal or is my body telling me something is def. wrong?

You do need a good reevaluation as your problems can be diagnosed. This does not mean that they can be remedied but at least you deserve to know why you have these symptoms.

The refusal by other surgeons to see you after surgery does not make sense to me. Half of my patients have had prior surgeries and we do not refuse to see them. Yes-it does take more time and understanding to diagnose these issues but it can be done.

You most likely will need a CT scan, flexion/extension X-rays and a new MRI to determine why you have more pain (along with a good physical examination). You might need an EMG/NCV test also but that is unlikely.

    Doc,

Today I have reached the six month post op threshold we had discussed. I can still not rise on my toes or walk without a limp

I will start the the electrical stimulation therapy since I am past the point where budding and sprouting nerve recovery is likely to continue.

Can you recommend any other treatment, testing, or therapy at this time? Thanks Doc
