in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7361
Yesterday Tuesday November 6 was my lumbar fusion surgery on the level of L5 S1. The procedure was a MITILF, after waking up I had no movement of my right leg couldn’t move my right leg at all after surgery, I was rushed into a MRI of my back and head both came out negative. They feel the positioning during the 4 hour surgery had an effect on the muscles and nerves. It was a very bad night for me lots of vomiting and 7 hours in recovery before going into my room.
Today November 7 I was re-evaluated and still having leg weakness, the doctor is having me moved to in-patient rehab. They hope to strengthen the leg and get it to fill mobility. I was up an walking a little today but it really was to much for me. We will be trying more tomorrow. So far today I feel some what better then yesterday pain meds are helping and we will see what tomorrow brings.

in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7231Hey Dr. i got the results of the MRI and they read as follows there is mild disc space narrowing at the L5-S1 level with mild loss of signal on the TR pulse sequences consistent with degenerative change. Status post right hemilaminectomy of L5 at the L5-S1 level. There is a recurrent right lateral recess disc herniation with surrounding granulation tissue at this level compressing the thecal sac and the right S1 nerve root. There has been resolution previously demonstrated enhancement of the right S1 nerve root since last study. So what does all that mean. Is this leading to a fusion surgery.
in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7182Hey Dr. i have gone to my surgeon and a associate of his, they have ordered an MRI with and without contrast. The physical evaluation has lead him to believe a 3rd herniation as occurred. He says if the MRI shows another herniation that they will preform a fusion. So will keep you up to date after the results of the MRI.
