in reply to: Incomplete Spinal Fusion #19477
Dr C
I was given a spinal simulator after 2 weeks which I used with regularity. I have ordered all my imaging reports and will share that with the forum. In tandem, I will be going to for a second opinion. Thank you again. Despite the issue, the severe arthritic pain is gone, and that’s win for me.
in reply to: Incomplete Spinal Fusion #19476I was told that roughly 10% of those using it have a reaction. My experience taught me not to push going back to ones regular routine to quickly. Walking is essential, and the best therapy. Rest, Rest, and more Rest. Good eating habits so the bone fuse properly. I also insisted on a service that monitored my spinal cord during the surgery to avoid issues. I was fortunate and had a neurosurgeon and an orthopedic surgeon working together. To avoid nausea(I was prone to this)or at least reduce the possibility, a night before I was given a anti nausea patch and then during in the IV they gave me Zofran. Works very well. This should continue throughout the week. Takes that long for all the drugs to leave your system. Best of Luck, and heal well
in reply to: Incomplete Spinal Fusion #19474Yes though I did expirience spasms at around 6 weeks. Some people are more prone to this side affect. They gave me Valium low dose. It did work.
in reply to: Lumbar L5/S1 Issues #11819Dear Dr Corenman
As you had suggested, I had a l4 TLIF on Nov 10 at Lennox hill hospital in NYC. With a grade 1 issue, degenerative disc, and “impressive” arthritis on the facet joint(as per the surgeon)the operation was less elective. The weight loss and following protocol is important. No.matter how prepared we are, it’s a rough operation. Mind was over 3 hours and I did have a neurosurgeon working with my orthopedic surgeon. I made certain to have my spine monitored by the service for my safety. I also suggest that if nausea is concern get anti nausea patch before and keep it on until all those drugs have been flushed out. Post operation after you go home, you will be exhausted and not something that good nap will resolve. Your body needs to rest.even sleep.is difficult, this will pass. Drink alot of fluids. Eat and walk every day. Take your pain meds if needed. I’m careful and take very little. Even in the hospital, hardly used the pain pump. I’m not tough, j didn’t Wang to be queasy or constipated. I’m still home recuperating. Don’t rush back to work, this will work against you. Save a few paychecks and use that cAsh to.let you heal. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Again. Thank you for your help and giving me the courage to take the plunge.
in reply to: Lumbar L5/S1 Issues #11315again thank you so much for all your guidance. I have now scheduled the surgery.
in reply to: Lumbar L5/S1 Issues #11301Hello Dr Corenman
I apologize when i wrote “minimal”. What i was referring to was Minimally Invasive procedure. The surgeon indicated that due to the positioning that wasn’t possible. Should I expect a longer recovery time? Thank you again for all your patience.
