Hi, I’m the person who started this topic. For an update I am one year post-op and still having motor weakness in back of leg, calf and foot. Can’t feel my right foot and can’t move my toes among other issues. Saw doctor last week, he said he doesn’t know why it has not come back yet. He wants to see me one more time in 6 months then thats it. I am getting stronger and not walking with a cane as much but I have accepted that I probably will walk with a limp. There are alot of other people in worst shape than me and I am going to make the best of my life no matter what comes my way. Good Luck in your recovery!

My surgeon said should have had it done 10 years ago but i was stubborn. Saw a different surgeon 6 years ago he said i was very young to have this severe stenosis. I was born with a narrower than normal spine, so i was doomed from the start. I am coming up on 3 months since surgery and very little progress, can walk without cane in house but use it when i am out,it helps alot. I wish i would have done it a long time ago. So if your doc is recomending surgery get it done sooner rather than later. The older you get the more bone build up and pinching of the nerve roots. My main problem now is the S-1, doc said normal opening is size of quarter, mine was size of pencil. He irritated the nerve alot while grinding the bone to relive pressure on the nerve. All i can do now is keep my spirits up, try to do as much as i can on the farm here and give it time.

Is there anything i can do to speed the healing of the nerves ? Will walking on treadmill and physical therapy daily help or hurt it? I will be trying to get back to a somewhat normal life a little at a time.

Thank you for quick response. My symptoms started in my 30’s have known i have spinal stenonsis for about 15 years doctors say it is genetic. was walking bent forward, could not walk or stand for very long because of leg pain. After surgery i have all these new symptoms with right leg numdness and weakness, right buttocks muscle won’t work, down back of leg to foot, limited movement of toes, foot completly numb. I do have strength in front of my leg so i can pull toes up with ankle. Bladder and bowel issues are new since surgery. My left leg came out of surgery perfect. I am a farmer and need to know if this is going to be permanent. I could walk on my toes prior to surgery. He did not say he injured a nerve but did say nerve will be swelled for a while and that nerves take a long time to heal, he said what don’t come back in 12 months won’t come back. Thank You Doctor.
