in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7874
The surgeon is well know in this area, I mean the guy operated on the New York Jets and wrote many books on spin injuries as well as neurological conditions. But for me I seem to be a rare case. When I had the fusion he brought on board another very well accredited orthopedic surgeon and they were very confident that a fusion would correct the issue. Now that it’s all done I very worse and in more pain I have to agree with Dr. Corenman in regards to nerve damage which both docs agree on. It’s just a waiting game now to see where PT will take me. How are you doing, I know you have issues as well?
in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7851Update on condition, I saw the surgeon about the continuing pain and issues with walking. He reviewed the MRI and took X rays, what the MRI states he agrees with as I wrote previously. The X rays are good as well all looks like its healing well. He prescribed Lyrica and I will be starting PT Thursday. Doctor states that the nerve is damaged and because I had Peroneal palsy that the never may not recover. The fact that I had 3 herniation and 3 surgeries with the last one being a fusion the nerve has been through alot. So I will see where the next set of treatment will take me. The pain is horrible and I can’t do much example walking for 20 min sitting or staning for 20 to 30 min all these activites cause me alot of pain. I will keep the fourm up to date on he progress.
in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7762Yes they did only on right side and yes they did use BMP with bone graft of my own bone. I see the Dr next Thursday and I will see what he had to say. They other surgeon says to see what the other surgeon says. I am very cautious of the injections because of feed back from others.
in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7750As far as what the MRI states is At L5-S1 laminectomies. No central stenosis is present the thecal sac is well decompressed into the laminectomy defect. Susceptibility artifact within the disc space is consistent with interval placement of an intervertebral disc prothesis. There are right L5-S1 transpedicular screws in the course and trajectory of which are within normal limits. Soft tissue is present in the inferior aspect of the right neural foramen resulting in mild right foraminal stenosis with possible impingement upon the right L5 nerve root. Within the right lateral recess soft tissue is identified which abuts and slightly posteriorly displaces the right S1 nerve root. This likely represents granulation tissue/fibrosis. A small lateral recess/foraminal disc herniation is not entirely excluded. When compared with the previous examination, the moderately large right lateral recess recurrent herniated disc has been resected and the mass effect upon the right S1 nerve root has significantly improved. the left L5-S1 neural foramen is patent there is mild left facet hypertrophy There are no paraspinal masses, there is a transitional lumbosacral junction with partial lumbarization of S1
in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7746Hello Dr. Happy New Year to start off, since the last time we spoke things have not gotten any better. The pain in my back is getting worse each day along with the leg pain, it gets to the point where I can’t walk for long or get up at times. I was prescribed a Medrol Dose Pack which did not work, then I was given Soma and Naproxen which has done nothing as well. I am 3 back surgeries in now last one being a MISTILF, an MRI was done but is not clear because of too much scare tissue. A disk fragment can’t be rules out, I am lost right now dot know what’s going on have you ever had a patient like this or do you have an idea of what could be wrong? Thanks talk to you soon.
in reply to: L5-S1 DISC HERNIATION, TWO BACK SURGERIES. #7581Hey sorry to hear about the pain you are having, the progression in my case as not been great. I am going for an MRI to see what is going on inside the surgical site, hope to see why i am having so much pain in my back, with my leg pain has come back, and the numbness and motor weakness that i am having. It has not been an easy road three surgeries a fusion and now this i only hope for the best but i am not feel good at all. The fusion surgery was good a few weeks after it then i started having problems after getting up off the couch one day. Then with my luck i fell 2 times so i think that may have done me in. Have you gotten an MRI to see whats going on in your case ?
