As long as you can walk on your heels and your ankle does not want to “twist” when taking a step on uneven ground, you most likely do not have weakness.

I was able to walk on my heals with no problem but on even ground

Reason I ask about disk us because my mri should a bulging dusk. My surgeon did not see a need to shave it and said it would not present a problem. Another surgeon said same prior to my surgury. I’m assuming the bulge was on left side since that was problem side when i had MRI 11 months ago

Your question; “There are disk on both the right and left side of the L4 L5 area”? Yes

Disc bulges are very common. If your disc bulge was not too big and most of your symptoms were from canal stenosis (narrowing of the canal and not disc herniation), then a laminectomy is a good procedure. During surgery, the surgeon can check on the disc simply by moving the nerve root and seeing if the disc bulge entraps the nerve. If it does not, common practice is to leave the bulge intact and not make a cut through the PLL (posterior longitudinal ligament) and disc outer annulus. Less surgery is generally better in this case.
