    Hello –
I’m one week post-op L5-S1 discectomy. I have a large herniation, (left paracentral protrusion) for 6 months prior to surgery. My sciatica is completely resolved with the exception of minute numbness to the left foot. Today I have had quite a bit of sharp pain to the L buttock, increasing as the day progressed. It is aggravated when I raise my left arm or with movement. I have no pain if I don’t move. I was more active today and rode in a car for the first time. Is this normal?

    Thank you for your time.

Having resolved symptoms but some intermittent increased pain after surgery is not too abnormal at this early point. Ask your surgeon if you could start PT soon as this might be helpful.
