Hello Dr.Corenman, Here’s my X-rays Can you please tell me how the auto fusion at my C5-C6 looks to you and how my C4-C5 level looks to you And can you tell me how the rest of my Cervical Spine looks to you.Dr.Corenman I’m a little weary about my C4-C5 level does it look stable or unstable to you?

    Thank You!!

OK. You have an auto fusion of C5-6 and significant narrowing of C6-7 creating a kyphosis (reverse curve) of these levels. The compensation for this has been a wearing out of the disc and facets of the C4-5 level. The disc and secondary ligaments are wearing out and you have developed a degenerative spondylolisthesis of C4-5. The discs above at C2-3 and C3-4 look good (relatively).

The level at C4-5 is developing instability as it moves what appears to be 4mm forward on flexion and corrects to neutral on extension. If you don’t participate in dangerous loading activities (mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing or contact sports), you should be generally OK but this problem will not improve over time. If you put your neck at risk, you should consider stabilizing this level.

Hello Dr. Corenman,I just wanted to Thank You for viewing my X-RAYS and all the information you gave me about my Cervical Spine.

    Thank You !!

Dr.Corenman, so I take it that my Spine Doctor is wrong about the Auto-fusion at C5-6 would stabilize my Cervical spine if I was in a car accident or if I had a bad fall. Dr.Corenman is my Cervical spine in Bad shape ? What level is the worse ?? Probably C4-C5

Dr.Corenman Thank You again for viewing my X-RAYS and comment on them for me. I really appreciate it and you’re a great Doctor!!

Dr.Corenman, I forgot to asked you are you saying that my C4-C5 level is Unstable because you told me no mountain biking, skiing, Rock climbing,or contact sports.

Dr.Corenman, is the Instability at C4-C5 level Mild or moderate ?

    Thank You !!

I would call the instability moderate. This does not mean an imminent threat with a fall but the possibility of neck or cord damage is higher with moderate stability than with mild instability. If you don’t put your neck at risk (a fall with biking or skiing onto your head), there is less risk to your neck.
