I fractured my c1 vertebrae 8 weeks ago. I did not need surgery. I have been in a neck brace for 8 weeks. The doctor told me two days ago that it was not completely healed but it was “bridged”. He said I could start phasing out the neck brace over the next week and I did not need physical therapy. The only directive was to let my chin fall to my chest from time to time and go about normal activities. I viewed your video on “yes” and “no” exercises but I am wondering if I can do them or not given that my bone is not healed completely. Are there any other exercises I could do to help my neck muscles?

The C1 vertebra is a ring with large bony masses (articular pillars) on each side that join the base of the skull with the C2 vertebra. Fractures can occur in the ring on one or both sides or/and with the articular masses. Depending on how many fractures, where they occur, how displaced they are and how these fractures have healed (based upon CT scan) will dictate what exercises you can do.
