Hi, my name is Tina . I have had back pain for 4+ years now. I have low back pain of the L5. I have left leg pain that runs into my foot and can no longer feel or move my big toe so much. I have tried every thing imaginable to cope and fix my spine. Chiropractor, steroid shots, physical therapy, several epidural injection’s of the L4 L5. With no relief I had a consult with Laser Spine Institute. I had two surgeries with Laser Spine Institute in Ohio. A laminectomy of the L5, and again 7 moths later. I’m currently under the care of Dr. Prieto at Interventional Pain Specialists in Nashville Tn. I take pain meds daily and we are doing a trial of injections of just lidocaine because im allergic to steriods. However, the numbing does work for a tiny bit of time, down my left leg but my back pain is still severe. I’ve had countless epidural injections and nerve blocks. I’ve had PT several times. Chiropractor’s, and also acupuncture. My first injection with Dr. Prieto he notcied and abnormality in my spine. He said this could be part of the pain I have because its not normal. I have done some research and it appears that its Bertolotti Syndrome. Its identical to it. I have been told by several people your one of the best. So I’d like to send you all scans and e-rays to you. I do live in KY. I’d be willing to travel to you for consult on what you can do. I do apologize for the long message. I just wanted to give you a look into my records.
    Thank you for your time.

    Tina.

Bertolotti’s Syndrome is uncommon and would not cause any leg pain. I’m sure you have read about it but here is the link to restudy it (https://neckandback.com/conditions/bertolottis-syndrome-colorado-spine-surgeon/).

I would assume that you need more than a decompression as severe back pain generally is caused by degenerative discs, facets, pars fractures among other disorders. Is it possible that Bertolotti’s Syndrome is causing your back pain? You would need a work-up to determine if this is the case.

I would be happy to see you in person at the clinic or become involved with a long-distance consult where other that the physical examination being missing, I can review all your images, get a complete history and talk with you on the phone. Whatever would work best with you.
