    Greetings Dr.Corenman,

For the past six years I have had constant R arm/shoulder pain with tingling in the index/ring/pinky finger. My arm often “falls asleep” with computer use. My right hand is always swollen. It also goes “cold” significan temperature change than the left hand. Most of the pain is in my forearm and shoulder area. My sypmtoms all started after my daughter was born I was using the right arm for feedings and she slept on my right forearm every night for months. Iam unable to wear a bra strap. I dont feel that much “neck pain”. I’ve had 2 wrist surgeries (tendon release and ligament repair) and radial nerve release surgery which did not improve my mine at all. I had a normal EMG test a few years ago and a ganglion stellate block that did not provide any relief. I cant function as any arm movement causes me pain.

I recentely had a MRI that states:

    1. Small disk osteophytes complex with superimposed central protrusion of the disk with annular tear at C5-C6 produces mild central canal stenosis

    2. Small disk osteophyte complex with superimposed right paracentral protrusion of the disk at C6-C7 produces a mild central canal stenosis

    3. Mild right uncovertebral hypertrophy at C4-C5 produces mild narrowing of the right neural foramen.

Could this explain my arm/shoulder pain? Im 37 but I do have 20 plus year history of Rheumatoid Arthritis which is well controlled.

    Thank you for your time.

It is possible but unlikely that your hand and shoulder symptoms originate from your neck. There are many other disorders that can cause your symptoms such as rotator cuff tears and thoracic outlet syndrome. There would be normal EMGs found with these disorders. Vascular disorders can also cause your symptoms. A good diagnostician can discover what the source of your symptoms are.
