in reply to: Pain in the opposite leg after a laminectomy #26780
I forgot to mention surgeon said I should she up to 60 percent improvement from symptoms. Also said it’s possible I may still require a fusion in the future.
I hope not. Besides that he said he was able to remove the soft tissue fragment. He didn’t say anything about a disk fragment.

in reply to: Pain in the opposite leg after a laminectomy #26737Physician assistant from North American Spine called me yesterday later in the day to answer any question I have regarding the surgery.
When I ask regarding the surgery she based on the old MRI and the new one the bulge did not seem that much bigger than before. She cannot say what they will retrieve around my spinal canal area that is sitting on the nerve roots (hard to make out what it Is from MRI images). She said it could just be a collection of soft or fatty tissue (and if that is the case it could dissolve on its own in 6-12 months without surgery). and if that is all not even sure they will do a discectomy or not.
If it is a herniated disk fragment then yes they will do the discectomy.
This is what the PA said (not surgeon) unless Valente findings were different after going over them more after our initial meetings at his office.
So hopefully I’m not getting cut open and have more scaring and whatever comes along with it for nothing!
Either way they will retrieve whatever it is sitting on the nerve roots.
