    Hello Dr Corenman,
What is the best way to diagnose c1 instability? and would MRI show this? I have had 3 cervical MRI’s at 3 different clinics/hospitals, I have had neck pain for the past 22 years starting with diagnosis of cervical kyphosis in 1994, got alot better and lived most of those years ok, about 1 and half years ago, I had some jarring to the top of my head from a tree limb that shifted while cutting down, I did not bleed but jarred me really hard, not long after had neck pain, mild herniated disc c6,c7 area, eventually pain eased from that area of c6 and c7,,,,but what still lingers is muscle pain in shoulders and up my neck to the back of my skull, with popping at c1,,I believe I have this instability, can this heal on its own? and would the wrong physical therapy exercises irritate and delay healing? Any advise would be very appreciated.
    John
