6 months post op trans-thoracic corpectomy on T-9. Had plasmacytoma tumor crushed the vertebrae. Surgery went well, everything in place, but I get this excruciating pain in my left shoulder. (Side of incision) see a sports medicine doctor next week. Is this pain normal, will it go away. Just trying to get a little info before my next appt with surgeon (2 weeks) and sports medicine doc in one week.
    Thank You

I assume this was a solitary plasmacytoma (an individual lesion without other similar lesions around). You might have something completely different causing your shoulder pain (rotator cuff impingement, cervical “pinched nerve”) or this can be a mechanical problem that has developed from this side of the thoracic surgical approach. Many times, a rib is taken on this approach and possibly, the end of the sacrificed rib is causing problems. Also, the intercostal nerve (the one in between the ribs) is stretched during surgery and this could also cause problems.
