I had a TLIF 5 weeks ago on my S-1 thru L-4. My original pain has gone but I have gotten some new pain since the surgery. I am walking 3-4 miles per day and am wondering if the pain is because of the activity.
I have a burning pain in my left buttocks that feels like a pulled muscle. I have gotten more muscle soreness in both legs in the past few weeks, especially the calves. Is this probably attributed to my walking or possibly something else?
I don’t see my surgeon for another week and a half and wonder if I should lessen my amount of walking per day until then.

Having a two level TLIF 5 weeks ago and walking 3-4 miles per day at this point might be too much walking stress. Walking 1-2 miles a day cut into smaller segments will be less inflammatory and most likely less painful.

You might have some mild nerve irritation (burning pain in left buttocks) or this might be referral pain from the surgery. If this pain is significant, you might ask your surgeon if he or she would prescribe a short course of an oral steroid.
