My uncle has been lying in a hospital for two weeks.Prior to that, he had lower back pain.He didnt seek medical help.He was taking antibiotics and used a lot of horse balsam (I apologise, that is the only way I can translate it as english is not my first language). After that, he visited the doctor and did some tests. He had abnormaly high crp of 300.After some tests he was diagnosed with stage four spinal cancer with metastasis that spread to all soft tissue by a proffesor. After he was moved to a hospital that deals mainly with people with spinal problems, the doctors there looked over his results and told us he didnt have cancer, but a case of severe inflamation, which spread to his lungs and turned to septicemia. He was transported back to the previous hospital, and currently lies there.
I know this explanation is vague, but I do not understand the whole situation.I have his MRI scan, is there a way I can send it to you so you can look over it and give your opinion.
    Thank you.

Your uncle might have a rheumatological condition (an autoimmune disorder) that causes inflammation or an infection (more likely). If it is an infection, this disorder obviously needs to be treated. If the spine is infected and he has a sequestrum (a part of the spinal bone that is “dead” or a pocket of pus-an abcess), this needs to be surgically drained or removed. That is assuming the infection is not tuberculosis which needs an entirely different treatment protocol.

What he needs is identification of the disorder. This means at least blood cultures and probably a biopsy to identify the causative agent. This cannot wait for films to be delivered for my perusal.

I am out of the office for one week so am unable to view films. This period is too long to wait for your uncle. Check the radiologist report as there is always one dictated after films are produced and this can give important differentials to your uncle’s disorder.
