I take ice packs to work driving and back. At work I sit on heating pad. It is so crazy.

You need to see a different doctor for chronic pain. Neurosurgeons also specialize in spine surgery or move to a different orthopedic group with a spine surgeon. I know a few people that had chronic back pain that came out of surgery pain free. They were in no pain directly after the surgery either. It can be a long recovery before you get clearance for all activities like sports. One person was a golfer and he had to wait six months before a full swing was allowed. He had spinal cord narrowing issues along with other issues and had a five inch incision over the lumbar location. 68 years old.

You are correct in that therapy will not “push back” a herniated disc. Find a good, experienced spine surgeon who can give you a second opinion.

You are correct. A second opinion should be helpful.

T: Find out which spine doctor in your region performs surgery on professional athletics like football, baseball, soccer players, etc. Those players go to the most experienced surgeons. They take insurance too. That is a good starting point for you. If you have to travel to another county it will be worth it. I had hand surgery in 2005 that was not performed correctly and needed to be corrected. Dr. in Los Angeles was a professional sports team hand surgeon. He repaired my hand back to 90% normal with full strength. I had to travel and spend a night in a hotel in LA but it was worth it.
