    Hi,
I’m eleven weeks post op from a lumbar Microdisectomy, done by you, and I have some concerns.
I have had PT since around day ten post op and have had good weeks and not so good weeks, thoughts being on muscle imbalance. During week nine, post op, I ‘tweaked’ my lower back. This ‘tweak’ felt the same as times well before my herniated disc came to light but since then there are still concerns.
I feel pretty good after PT and most mornings but as the day gets longer and I sit for a bit my buttock gets tender again and if I cough or sneeze I feel it in my buttock through my thigh. I have been dealing with a tight QL and under active glute med so I’m hoping that is the on going problem. Obviously my concern is that I reherinated my L5 and I’m back to square one.
    Your thoughts?

Reherniation can occur and if the symptoms are similar than you have to consider reherniation, seroma formation (a pool of fluid that can compress the root), nerve inflammation (which can take as much as 6 months to “calm down”) or chronic radiculopathy. Time will tell but in any of the first three scenarios, an oral steroid can be helpful. Please call the office and this can be discussed.
