I can barely hold my head up. It feels like it weighs 1000 pounds. My neck just must be badly damaged. Im 23 years old and never had a single health problem until I was rear ended in sept 2015. Now I am bed ridden because Everytime I stand up and put weight on my neck, it feels like it’s gonna snap. I was told by the radiologist I have just a minor disc bulge at C5.

Here is a picture of my cervical MRI. I personally see a lot more damage than a minor disc bulge but was hoping I could get your opinion Dr. Corenman and other forum posters.

By the way – this is a supine (laying down) MRI of the cervical spine. I am having an upright MRI on the cervical spine on Saturday and I am dreading it. I will probably pass out it is so painful to hold my neck up.

You have a degenerative disc at C4-5 and C3-4 based upon the supplied image. You do not need a stand-up MRI as these images are generally not helpful. You do need X-rays with flexion/extension views, a full history and physical examination. The pain generator has not yet been defined and you probably need diagnostic injections to also help identify the pain source.
