hi there my son had an x-ray done on is lumbar veribrae as he has a lump on it. We were told since he was 2 months old that it was nothing to worry about as it was only tissue. We got an x-ray done on his back last week which I took a picture of. The doctor was concerned about a few things.
    1. lower lumbar vertibrae is not showing clearly as it looks like all five bones are joined together.
    2. on his rib cage he has two ribs on his right and only one on the opposite side but the rib bone on his left side branches off into two bones can anyone help me I have the picture which is very clear if you want me to send it to you.thanks colin

It is difficult to understand what you are seeing on the X-ray. The “lower 5 bones that look they are joined together” could be the sacrum which is made of 5 individual vertebra until they join together to form the sacrum.

The conjoined ribs are a variant of normal but could also indicate congenital deformity. If there is a scoliosis present at this early age, you would need to see a pediatric spine specialist at either Shriner’s Hospital or a Children’s Hospital near you.
