    Hi Dr Corenman,
I had a left L4-L5 and L5-S1 lumbar decompression three months ago which has been a great sucess. Last week I was sent for an MRI of my pelvis as I have trochanteric bursitis on that side. The report said I have extensive left sided paraspinal soft tissue oedema in the erector spinae muscles from the 4th lumbar vertebrae to the sacrum. In the lower lumbar area there is extension of the oedema into the subcutaneous tissues. The radiologist said the extent of the muscle oedema is considerable and significant. The area is tender and that side feels a bit tight. Is this normal so long after surgery?.Thank you.

This is not abnormal at three months. If you have no fevers, chills or any symptoms of “feeling bad” (constitutional symptoms), I would not worry.
