Your pain is not from a “muscle spasm” but it would be unfair to expect your family doctor to be able to diagnose the cause of your lower back pain. Family doctors have to know about immunology, cardiology, nephrology, pulmonary systems and diabetes among a huge amount of other subjects. It would be difficult for them to be experts on the spine too.

See the section “causes of lower back pain” on the website to get an understanding of what can cause this pain.
