Having relief of pain for some time and then re-developing pain that increased could be signs of a pseudoarthrosis (non-fusion) or breakdown of the levels above or below. Read the CT report yourself but do understand that some radiologists will not read fusion status but simply that there was previous fusion attempt at L4-5. I assume the pain is local back pain and does not radiate into the buttocks or legs.

I will assume that the surgeon identified a solid fusion but I will say that on occasion, I have seen an incorrect assumption of fusion. Pain can be generated by the transverse-alar articulation (Bertolottis syndrome), the sacroiliac joint or a chronic radiculopathy (https://neckandback.com/conditions/chronic-radiculopathy/).

I do have a long distance consult program where I can send you my forms, you can fill these out, send your history, your films and I will personally review your information and talk to you on the phone. There is a charge. You can call Lauri Fugate at my office for further information.
