    Dr. Corenman

Thank you for advice and continued support. I was wondering if I would be a candidate for a microdiscectomy and what is the success rate of this type of procedure? If you can shed some light on this type of surgery, I would appreciate it.

You have to have a diagnosis to determine what your pain generator is. If this pain is generated from nerve compression, a microdiscectomy (or other type of decompression) can be effective. If however, this is back pain from a degenerative disc or facet, a decompression will not work. You need a diagnosis and a work-up to determine what your pain derives from.

Thank you so much for the additional information on a microdiscectomy. I’ll follow up with the neurosurgeon as soon as possible and keep you updated on my back pain.
