    Sir,

I am a 29 year old female and i am suffering from back and leg pain since last few years. A week ago i had severe back pain. I got an MRI done. The report says THERE IS LARGE POSTEROCENTRAL AND RIGHT PARACENTRAL PROTRUSION OF L4 -L5 DISC COMPRESSING THECAL SAC, BILATERAL BUDDING NERVE ROOT AND CAUSING MILD SPINAL CANAL NARROWING. LUMBOSACRAL TRANSITION VERTEBRAE SEEN AND LABELED SCARALIZED L5). I just got married a month ago. I am very scared about my future. Please advice me regarding the treatment options. I am 5’3″ and i weigh 137 pounds.

Your future should be just fine. Is your back and leg pain unchanged for this period? Did the symptoms change (new symptoms that were not present for months, intensity change or percentage of back vs.leg pain change)?

You need a spine professional to diagnose you properly and develop a pain program (therapy, injections or if nothing works-surgery).

Thank you for the prompt reply. Regarding symptoms, i have just a little pain in the right pelvic region and coccyx sometimes. I feel weakness in my right leg. I am not taking any medications now. I consulted a spine specialist. He told me i have to do life style modifications and avoid doing any heavy work, lifting or sitting for long durations. I am a nurse and i will be moving to Colorado in an year probably. Will i have problems with work and if i get pregnant… This happened soon after i got married… So I’m very concerned.

Nursing might not be contraindicated unless you are an ED or Trauma nurse where the need for heavy lifting and pushing/pulling could cause flair-ups. Weakness in the leg could be concerning if it is neurological weakness and not pain inhibition. By the sounds of your MRI reading, your L5 nerve roots are compressed. Check all three of these sections to understand what could be occurring.
