A right sided unilateral laminectomy most likely took care of the nerve compression that was plaguing you. This nerve decompression surgery was designed to only decompress the nerve root and does nothing for disc instability and pain. You indicated that you had lower back pain prior to the surgery. There are uncommon patients that will obtain lower back pain relief from a decompression and unfortunately, you are not one of them.

You do need to have regular cardiovascular exercise so I don’t want to discourage exercise but you might try an elliptical machine or a stationary bike. Hopefully, you have undergone a good rehabilitation program after your surgery to strengthen the core muscles and now understand ergonomics.

You underwent a microdiscectomy at L4-5. I assume that your leg pain abated but you have continued lower back pain. Did you go through an extensive rehabilitation program? That would be my first recommendation. Core strengthening is important.

Yes NSAIDs can be nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic but the incidence of those complications is very limited and can be recognized by lab tests. Normally- stopping the medication resolves the issues. If NSAIDs work for you, consider taking them.

It is too bad that there is no rehabilitation service in your country. I have not yet put together an appropriate rehabilitation video or thread as there in not enough time in the day! You can look over the TV interviews (5 total) I did in the last year as there is some good information there about the core but it is not specific.

I have not searched the internet for rehabilitation content yet but there has to be something good out there. The problem is separating the good from the bad.

Use NSAIDs during the prolonged sitting for the examination at least. This should give you some relief without the grogginess associated with pain killers.
