Dear Sir,
Thanks a lot for your valuable response. To answer your queries u made in the reply out of the 4 reasons necessary for surgery I have low back pain as well as nerve compression causing pain radiating down the leg (max up to knee), it occurs in my right leg, but some times in both. When I feel the pain radiating it gives me too much of problem. But as a patient I am not sure whether I m having motor weakness or not.
Another point is that I can’t say that Physical therapy fails, as gives significant improvement, but not getting result as per expectation.
While checking doctor put pressure on my big toe with his hand and told me to lift it up…after that he told me that the EHL of right leg is Grad 4, which indicates next to next problem which can come across is “Paralysis”.He also added in worst case, the existing problem may lead to “impotency” also. I am too much concerned about this and also about post surgical effects (if surgery is taken at last).
Please advice me.Thanking you

I have another query that can i use lumbosacral belt that may
may prevent my back from exessive bending or tilting? Sir which
exersises do you recommend for me? another important question is
that I am unmarried untill now, Does the surgery being done would
compromising my married life?
waiting for your valuable reply thanks.A disc herniation compressing the L5 root will cause EHL weakness (extensor of the great toe). This is a normal finding with L5 pathology and may or may not improve over time after the disc herniation is removed. Unless you are a martial artist, football player or rock climber, this deficit will not affect your life.
You will not become fully paralyzed or impotent from an L5 disc herniation unless it fills up the entire canal and that is exceeding rare. Surgery will not affect your married life.
Lumbosacral belts can be useful for heavy lifting. This increases the core pressure to reduce the stress on the lumbar spine when lifting. Continuous use however weakens the abdominal muscles as you tend to push your belly out against it instead of contracting the abdominal muscles.
