Thank you Dr. Corenman! I’m meeting with the doctor performing the injection tomorrow and I now have a lot of good questions to ask him thanks to you. I will definitely keep a pain diary – my injection is scheduled for next week.

I had my appointment with the doctor performing the injection. He did a comprehensive evaluation of my medical records and my symptoms and answered all my questions. He did agree with my surgeon that I would benefit from a TFESI at L3/L4 and it was very important for me to see a PT trained in McKenzie method.

My pain this week has decreased to a level 2-3/10 so that’s encouraging. Walking and core work/stabilization exercises seem to really help.

Do you have L3-4 foraminal symptoms as you noted that your pain was consistent with L5-S1 in a prior post? If you have foramina stenosis as a pain generator, McKenzie methods would not be as helpful as this treatment technique uses extension mobilization as a tool and extension can aggravate the nerve root in a narrowed foramen.

Make sure you aggravate your symptoms prior to the TFESI and keep a pain diary for three hours after to get a diagnosis.
