    Just a follow up question.
I mentioned that i woke with right finger pain. I’ve never had right sided pain prior to surgery.
I’m just over 3 weeks post op and the pain is still there, with added altered sensation in my index finger and thumb.
Is this a common side effect from surgery?

Having symptoms on the opposite side where no symptoms were noted prior to surgery is unusual. Altered sensation in index and thumb indicates a C6 nerve involvement. Make sure your biceps strength and wrist extensor (bending backwards) strength are fully intact. Possibly, this is a nerve root stretch that will resolve on its own but with a fusion, I hope the surgeon performed a foraminotomy on this side during surgery.

    Thank you for the response.
I recall the surgeon said he had to remove a lot of bone spurs from the foramina. I didn’t ask if it was both sides though.
I will be following up at his office in a few weeks with x rays etc and I’ll ask more questions then if it hasn’t resolved.
He did mention the same as you that it could be a nerve stretch type problem that should resolve.

I thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. It’s so helpful to me.
