I have muscle spasms that have caused my cervical spine to straighten. I have arthritis with some disc degeneration and a slightly bulging disk. My left arm also goes numb and no one can figure out why. Have gotten some cortisone shots in my muscles and it helped for a couple weeks but now the spasms are back. I have had an insurance change and can no longer afford to recieve services from my pain management Dr. How serious is this condition and is there something I can do at home to help relieve the pain? I take ibuprofen and muscle relaxer and also do neck stretches.

Your information you provide is symptom complaints but there is really no hard data to indicate what problems exist. “Straightening” of the cervical spine generally does not result from muscle spasm but from degenerative disc disease. Left arm numbness could occur from “pinched nerves” in the neck, nerve compression in the shoulder, the arm and even possible metabolic problems (many causes). It sounds like you need a spine expert to determine your disorder, explain the problems to you and come up with a treatment plan that gives you relief.
