    Hi dr Corenman
I had c456 acdf 8 months ago for herniated discs, myelomalacia, Myelopathy, stenosis, and spurs where surgeon said I would be paralized if I didn’t have the surgery and am still having problems. Is it possible to have swelling on the spinal cord this long after surgery? I have been taking Advil and it seems to kind of help numbness in arms and hands. When I stop taking it, the numbness gets worse. I am also taking 10mg Baclofen 3x a day & 300mg gabapentin that I have been taking since before the surgery. I am wondering if taking advil is bad for the healing.

If you are 8 months out from a spinal cord decompression surgery with continued symptoms, a new MRI is appropriate. You could have cord swelling, incomplete decompression, pseudoarthrosis (lack of fusion) a level above or below problem disorder or even syringomyelia (a fluid collection within the cord due to injury). This may be residual symptoms from the original injury but there is no way to know until a new MRI is ordered.

Hopefully, your fusion has already occurred and Advil should not be a problem at this point.
