Can a C5-6 disc ostophyte/disc complex cause muscle spasms and severe tightness with debilitating pain throughout the back from the top of the shoulder blade all the way down to the hip?

If you have significant nerve compression with your C5-6 disc ostophyte/disc complex, then the answer is yes. The most common referral area for this nerve (C6) is the top of the shoulder to the mid shoulder. With severe pain, it can radiate occasionally down to the hip.
