The workup depends upon symptoms and physical examination. I do endorse stretching for my patients but no weight-bearing flexion. no rotation or extension.

    Thank you

Are there any stretches you can recommend for me please to help relieve some of the tightness in the lower back and hamstring and relieve pain without screwing up the fusion ?

I seem to be getting some relief with walking. I am now up to a half mile/day as you suggested. I can probably actually go farther and it feels good to walk but then get paid again at resting.

Thank you as always your advice and guidance is always much appreciated !

I have my patients stretch the hamstring with a stiffer theraband (stretchy long “rubber band”) looped over their foot. They sit with this band looped under the sole of their foot (while wearing a tennis shoe). They simply pull the band towards their head while keeping the knee locked straight until the hamstring muscle feels “tight” but not painful. Hold for 10-20 seconds.

Great. Thank you very much !

Hopefully the leg pain it will go away.

If it does not, do you recommend a MRI or CT scan to analyze screw placement/pain generator?

I will be 4 weeks out of surgery this Thursday.

MRI is better for seroma, CT scan better for screw misplacement. It depends upon how your X-rays look.

Pain is manageable for right now with steroid taper. I will be 4 weeks out of surgery this Friday.

When do you typically allow patients to B,L,T and start PT/stretching?

Do you make this determination based on symptomology or XRay/scans ?

I can walk .5 – 1 mile without too much pain. I will try some stationary bicycling this week but need to stretch!
