Small timeline : injured my back flipping tire at the gym in September. I heard the pop & continued the workout + ran 1.5 miles after. I knew I’d be couch ridden the next day or so. After couple days, shooting pain went from buttox to foot where it took me more than few steps to get myself walking half normal.

Fast forward, chiro, pt, injections. Nothing worked at all. The injections gave me 1 day of relief. 6 months in, I decided on MD.

First day or so, I felt fine due to anesthesia. Next few days were lots of pins and needles. About the 1 week mark, I decided to search bed exercises after MD in which i came across the famous Bob & Brad PT. They recommended ankle pumps, flex knee to bed for quad, pelvic tilt & squeezing of butt cheeks. It probably took me less than 5 mins to complete these. I was doing them 2x a day in bed at about the 7 day mark until I started feeling some nerve pain in the butt after doing them for 2-3 days so I stopped immediately. I waited till the 2 week mark to see my surgeon in which i told her what i was feeling in which she said it was nerve healing. After that day, i started getting some more tingles and some sharp pains in legs and I believe it could’ve been due to the fact of me sitting in the car to get to the surgeons office which was almost an hr and a half of sitting combined time.

I spoke to doctor the next day in which she put me on 4MG prednisone. I’m on my 3rd day and feeling little better. I just want to hear your thoughts in regards to possible re-hern or nerve healing.

Also any specific typa walking program I should be going by? I read right now I should be at 10 mins walking 3-4x a day

How many days out are you from your microdiscectomy? I put all my patients on restrictions of “no BLT” (bend load twist) for at least the first 10 days. Walking under a mile is acceptable.

17 days. I have followed that protocol. I haven’t done any BLT at all

“flex knee to bed for quad, pelvic tilt & squeezing of butt cheeks” certainly sound like rotation (twisting) to me. Do I misunderstand you?

I thought when they say no twisting, I thought that meant no twisting sideways at the hip.

    What do you think doc?

I told my surgeon the excercises I did for couple days and she didnt seem too concerned
