It’s done! Some questions and comments. C5-C7 replaced with Mobi-C.

    Day 1
Back of neck, both shoulders and arms, scapula area sore, but no shooting or tingling, very sore. Normal?
Throat hurts a lot to swallow, and often feel like I have severe indigestion. There is a lot of discomfort mid-chest when breathing in as well, is that from lower down in my esophagus? I often feel like I have to burp, which is painful.

Strength in triceps SEEMS a bit better, but not testing it too hard right now obviously.

Neck brace or no neck brace? I was instructed to wear it for 2 weeks except sleeping or showering, but I’ve read other surgeons often don’t recommend one for ADR anymore. What are your personal instructions to 2 level ADR patients immediately post op?

My neck gets very tired, even with brace on, while sitting up. Is laying down propped up preferable for first days?

Overall, surprised how manageable this is day 1.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jay

“Back of neck, both shoulders and arms, scapula area sore, but no shooting or tingling, very sore. Normal”?
Yes. The vertebral disc space was probably collapsed and slightly stretched after implantation. The stretch will be noticed in the back of the neck.

“There is a lot of discomfort mid-chest when breathing in as well, is that from lower down in my esophagus”? Normal again. The esophagus has to be retracted and it is made of muscle that can dysfunction. You should not however have breathing difficulties.

I have my patients wear a neck collar for about 7-10 days to allow the disc to settle into the bone and “remind” the patient that they had neck surgery. I allow exercises in the collar immediately. See:

Feeling pretty good 1 week out. Strength seems back. I have a (new) achy feeling just to the left of or maybe on the part of my spine that is in the C7-T1-ish area. Can’t be sure which level exactly. I was told there might be some achy-ness pain due to how I was positioned on the table, the procedure itself, etc for up to a few weeks.

Reminder that my surgery was 2 level ADR C5-C7,

    Does that sound right/normal?
