Prescribed Exercises / Ergonomics are the basis for rehabilitation. Ligaments cannot be tightened (but can be loosened with stretching if that is part of the disorder) and degenerative discs don’t heal. The only spine structures that we truly have any control over are muscle strength and endurance and ligament tightness. Exercises are designed to train muscles to take over the job of malfunctioning spinal segments. In addition, appropriate exercises retrain the brain to function in a manner that reduces the stress on the damaged segments (ergonomics).
