    Dr. Corenman,

I would love if you could give me your thoughts regarding an issue I have been experiencing for the last 2 years. I will note that this only began occurring after I delivered my daughter. I did not experience any pain or discomfort during pregnancy.
The pain I have is in my lower back and hip area. It is felt when I’m laying down in bed although I have recently started feeling it standing up and sitting. It’s an incredibly intense pain that prevents me from sleeping and will wake me once I am. The only way I seem to find the slightest bit of relief is by bending my knee upwards towards my body (if that makes any sense) It’s almost as though I need to “open” my hips. When laying on my stomach, the pain will get so bad I am unable to turn over without using my hands to push myself. It’s a sharp burning pain…almost numbing. Across my entire lower back and into what I think would be considered my hip region.
I hope this description is helpful, thank you so very much for taking the time to read this!

    J.

More likely is that this is a radiculopathy (nerve root compression). When you say “hip area”, this might be a misnomer. See the section https://neckandback.com/conditions/how-to-describe-your-history-and-symptoms-of-lower-back-and-leg-pain/ to better convey your symptoms.
