I had my preop yesterday. I believe I mentioned in this post I have had liver issues in the past due to a stone that caused secondary biliary cirrhosis. Anyways, my enzymes etc. will always be high for the rest of my life. My INR fluctuates between 1.3 and 1.5.

My INR came back as a 1.5, which was somewhat expected. Should I bring up being admitted the night before to get a FFP transfusion. He did mention this, but it is a 4 to 6 hour process and will delay the surgery if I wait until the morning of.

I was hoping to get suggestions. I would feel more comfortable having it done seeing as they will be near my aorta.

My faith in my surgeon is there. I also have no reservations about the procedure, I know it is my only chance at relief. I am very glad to have found someone with experience performing this.

I am sure these emotions are normal, its just happening so quick. Well it seems quick lol.

Got my letter from insurance confirming approval. I am having normal jitters I think, had a bad dream last night. My only concern is I do not have another appointment before hand to answer questions, but we are squeezing it in rather quick since they had a cancellation. Works out better for my work to as we get busy in December so I hope to be back to work after 4 weeks.

I have questions of how he plans on doing things come up and also questions about how and what he has looked into regarding my liver to reassure me. Without the additional appointment I am still a little hesitant.

Oh well, what can I do. I called and talked to a nurse today but it is still not the doctor.

I will definitely keep things updated, like a diary.
How long does this procedure take for you to perform.

The plan is for Oct. 30th surgery. He had a cancellation and the more I think about it, the sooner I would like to get it done.

He told me he is coordinating with my hep to figure out what needs to be done with my liver issues. He said he will have himself, a general surgeon and vascular surgery there during the procedure. He thinks if all goes well I will be out of there in 3 to 4 days, so hopefully going home on that Sunday if all goes well.

I am nervous about the procedure. I have either had nerve blocks or only been put out for about 1 to 1.5 hours, never this long.

Thank you so much for your input. I am going to have to call the surgeon to leave a message to get a better description. I thought I understood the procedure from what he told me. He did not mention lung deflation or anything. He mentioned the entire procedure would be done while on my side. He felt my hospital stay would be 3 to 4 days without complications and I could be back to work within 4 weeks since I am going to be able to get by with a 1 level fusion.

The other thing besides alleaviating the pain that is making me more open to this is the 1 level fusion. He believes I will have very little loss of motion due to this. I also agree with you, and feel his work with defmorities makes him a good candidate to perform this operation on me.
