In December 2019 I had ACDF C6-T2 and then added on c5-6 4 days after the first surgery. All symptoms prior to that were left sided. I still have left sided issues including numbness and tingling, into my thumb and pointer finger. I also get headaches very often. My new pain is right sided, very strong pains, runs down the back of my arm through my elbow into the mid forearm. My outer arm is numb and thumb and pointer fingers are numb but no pain to them.

The postoperative MRI dated 12/31/19 showed little to no bone spurs remaining, and the MRI I had in 12/2020 showed large bone spurs. You are telling me the same as the second opinion doctor – this is highly unusual and mentioned the BMP as a possibility as well. I am not sure, the only thing mentioned in notes is:GRFT DBX PTY

I just want to know how to feel better, and I seem to be confusing everyone.

Thanks for any thought/suggestions you have to share with me, it’s appreciated.

Oh and they do compress the cord to “bean shape”

I did get a second opinion, and he did confirm solid fusion a but he also confirmed the bone spurs were not left over from surgery. I’m so confused

The CT revealed solid fusion. Impression from CT report: Large posterior bony spurs at c5 and c6.
What could cause those bone spurs to return after surgery? Does having this put me at a higher risk of injury if in a car accident or something, or am I overthinking? Does this happen often, and if so – what is the outcome? More surgery? Could the bone spurs eventually get better/disappear?

I am still in pain – but don’t know where to go from here.

Thank you for this information. guess I didn’t realize the same issues that I had surgery for – could resurface again a year later. I feel defeated right now.

I had xrays, but not including flexion/extension ones. Nothing abnormal was found on those, all looked good again.

My best hope is for solid fusion, obviously – but if I do NOT have solid fusion, a revision ACDF would take care of it – or are you saying both an ACDF and Posterior surgery would then be the next step?

Do you think if I am only 1 year out – that things could just spontaneously improve yet from the surgery? Or has that window pretty much passed?

Thanks again for your help – it’s appreciated tremendously.
