Many Thanks for your quick reply and valued opinion

JonasHi Dr Corenman,
I have been back to see my surgeon but she declined another scan i don’t think she was interested in my current condition and i think i now have to live with the outcome of my failed back surgery for now anyway
she did however said it would help my pain and muscle spasms if i had some steroid injections so i said yes and they injected around the L5/S1 area
with 3 injections
quite painful but it worked for 2 days but now my pains and spasms are returningdo you think its time for another opinion
Regards
jonasMany Thanks Dr Corenman
I will have to wait for the 3 months to pass hopefully the fusion might of worked and things get better at the moment though i don’t feel any better just worse with my legs and these sudden muscle spasms which try to push me backwards
I think she did say if my legs don’t improve she will do a MRI scan and see whats going on
keep up your great work and thanks for your advice will speak soon
Regards
JonasHi Dr Corenman,
I have seen my surgeon and she has written me a letter about our meeting
she put
My patient does not seem to have any particular difference from his decompression and removal of posterior arch plus posterolateral fusion
he is a smoker and certainly this has made no difference to his back but i was expecting this
i was hoping it would help him with his radicular pain
he does have quite a severe left sided radicular pain i have taken xrays today and the slip is slightly worse then compared to the CT Scans there is no obvious consolidation in the lateral gutters but there is a wide roomy decompressioni will see him in 3 months if he still has radicular pain that he cannot cope with we may consider scanning him then, but in the meantime he is to mobilise, he does not need any physio and his happy on his pain current painkillers
which are
300mg gabapentin
45mg co codamol
Citalopram 20mgPlease could you give me your explanation to what she has done and your opinion to why the operation has not worked to ease my pain and my legs feel worse than before
my walking is terrible as i said in my other posts but since then i now get sudden jolts of muscle spasms down the back of my legs and numbness in my toes and lower legs and quite frequent when i’m standing my muscles in my back contract and make me try to fall backwards then i feel my legs go weak pins and needles and just feel like i’m going to slump to the floor
all these symptoms were not here before the op
all i had was pain in my left leg and lowerback pain
I just need to know if this sounds normal and is there any chance things could get better or will my pain in my lower back and legs stay the same until more work is done
i can cope with things either way just need to prepare for what might come my wayRegards
JonasDr Corenman,
Many Thanks for your speedy reply and experience in this field i do agree with your thoughts i felt my lower back slip 3 times in 1 day about 6 weeks after the operation i really think she should of put rods in to support that weak area on L5 but for now i will have to live with things how they are until i can get assessed i believe my surgeon is one of the best spinal surgeons in Wales UK but she does Private and NHS Surgeries but maybe because i’m not paying private i am not getting the best of her services i don’t know really it’s just my opinion
i will wait to see how i am in 3 months time and see if she comes up with any more solutions to my problem but i’m not holding out much hope because she said there was nothing more she could do to my lower spine because there is no core foundation she saidmany thanks for all your advise and i will contact you in 3 months
take care and keep up your great work helping all us back sufferers
Regards
JonasHi Dr Corenman
Just a quick update ,i went to see my spinal surgeon yesterday and she said she carn’t do anything else for the lower back pain because when i had my surgery she said my lower back was in a really damaged state and no more future operations would make it any more better
i had a xray while i was there because she said i shouldn’t of had any type of physio after the operation but there was a mix up and i had several sessions of physio doing back lower back exercises
so she checked on the xrays to make sure the physio hadn’t undone anything she had put in place
i could see on the xray a big gap at the L5 area this is where she said she had decompressed and removed the neural arch
she said she could see a further slippage on the L5 which is why my leg pain has probably come back
but she said come back in 3 months time and lets see where we are at
i was in my wheelchair when i saw her and said i only use it when i have to but in the house i try to stay on my feet
so i will just after see what i’m like in the next 3 monthsThanks for all your advise in your forum it’s been a real help to understand my condition
