Thank you so much for all the help you have given me. I have learnt so much and feel I now have the confidence to speak up. I will be going to my family doctor when she gets the reports back in Sept and will for sure get a second opinion. I will let you know how I make out.
Would it be okay ask for a NS who does ACDF for a second opinion or
just leave that up to the NS? Be Well Carol

My Doctor agreed and when they get the report from Hfx (probabl0 middle of Sept we are going to get another opinion. thank you tons.
Got a copy of my flex/ext. I will post it and would appreciate what you think of it please.
Have to print it out as I don’t know how to get it here.

    Cervical spine dated 08/08/13
Clinical data: Three-month follow up cervical stenosis
Findings: Lateral views of the cervical spine were obtained in flexion and extension. There is a grade 1 anterolisthesis of c2 on c3 which increases to grade 2 anterolisthesis in flexion. There is otherwise normal alignment of the cervical spine however there is significant intervertebral disc height loss throughout the cervical spine from c3/4 through 5/6. The c6/7 interspace is not evaluated there is significant anterior and posterior osteophytic spurring at the c4/5 and c5/6 levels well as posterior osteophytic spurring. There is facet hypertrophy. There is no evidence for fracture. There is anterior wedging of the c5 vertebral which is considered chronic.
    final report

First visit to ns…..I would be paralyzed without surgery
call him if I get pins and needles/numbness

2nd visit Aug8/13…would not be paralyzed, arm and leg weakness/pins/needles/numbness, doesn’t know if surgery would help me.
Can’t tell me if I should have it or not, can’t tell me if I will be able to drive or not, may need laminectomy, doesn’t know what he has to do until he gets in there. He kept saying I don’t know. He never sat down but stood up with a intern the whole time.
My pain is mostly under control now and I am thinking I will cancel until things get worse or the pain cannot be handled. I am not comfortable at all and I feel he should have a plan and he doesn’t. He is away until Sept 3 but I sent him a e-mail message a couple of days ago. Thanks carol

Here is what I wrote to my ns.

It was so nice to see you at my appointment August 8/13. It was a lot to take in. I have instability at c2 and c3.
Wondering what your plan is before surgery? Think it is to fuse C2 TO C3 and go down to C4 if needed.
Going down to C7 wouldn’t be necessary.
    thanks Carol Waller

I have to feel comfortable with this surgery and if I have to wait for a second opinion so be it. I will let you know what he says. Never mentioned no one’s name etc Also this trip he said I would get weakness in my arms and legs and not be paralyzed like he said the first time. thanks carol

What do you think of me sending this e-mail to him? Will he get mad?
Or should I call his secretary?

Going down to c7 is a bit more than necessary. Can’t remember what you said.
    thanks Carol Waller
