You have degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine, the most common cause of neck pain. See the website for a discussion of this disorder.

Family physicians or general practitioners have so much information they have to juggle that they cannot easily know how to design a rehab program for spine patients. This is where the physical therapist or chiropractor comes in. I would ask if you could be referred to either one who would be experienced in spine rehab.

You might ask your doctor for NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) if you can tolerate these meds.
