The injections depend upon your pain pattern and your physical examination. If the examining physician finds more evidence of facet origin of pain, facet blocks are ordered. If the physician finds more evidence of the disc causing pain, a discogram could be ordered.

The facet blocks typically contain a numbing medication like lidocaine and a steroid like celestone. The discogram contains a radioopaque dye and antibiotic.
