A surgeon who is asked by a patient for a lower dose or strength of pain medication should be quite happy to hear this. Most likely, he has not required you to be on that dosage around the clock. I assume that he would agree for you to reduce your medication even now.

Surgery can be painful postoperatively and I am certain that he will continue you with medications until you no longer need them.
