Hi Dr. Corenman,
Have posted previously about ACDF.First could I ask would you consider writing a book about Cervical issues I have bought your book Everything you need to now,but the Cervical spine has few references.I am sure a book on this area would be well recieved. My question is I am now 2 and a half years post op and have been under investigation for Thyroid issues. The results all came back negative with no issues save slight low TSH at 2.1 -2.9. The Endocrinologists suggest a 2h hr heart monitor.I have multiple levels of foraminal stenosis as I suffer from a constitutional narrow spinal canal. Could any dmage occur to the Vegas Nere that would result in symptoms mimicing Hypo Hyper thyrid issues.Could there be any correlation with foraminal compression at the cervical level.Have also got some compromise at lower lumber, stenosis.
Is the Vegas Nerve an area where it would be worth looking at?
Many thanksI am currently writing a cervical book but it will not be ready for publication for about 1 1/2 years as I am concurrently writing a 12 hour conference on the lumbar spine.
The Vegas nerve (cranial nerve 11 conveying parasympathetics to the body as well as innervating various muscles), does not pass through any bony tunnels in the vertebral bodies, but travels in the carotid sheath. If would be impossible to compress this nerve through foraminal stenosis.
