I am having a TLIF (not minimally invasive) next week on S1-L4. What is the expected recovery time for this and, barring any problems, how soon can I be riding on my trainer and then out on the road?

Under “Pre and Post Op”, look under “recovery information by surgery” and then “lumbar fusion” for my algorithm for surgical recovery.

I allow my patients to be on a stationary bike almost immediately but they have to be upright on this device and able to reach the handlebars in this position.

Road biking on a mountain bike (hopefully with suspension) in a “beach cruiser” position can be considered at 3 months post-op.
