Pre-op was just standard physical. I am only 32. I had numbness in legs as well but felt it could be due to damage in lower back. Expect longer recovery. I can move fine but the recovery to be pain free is longer than that of lumbar or cervical spine. I believe that is due to rib work to get access to disc.

I am sore most of the time but it is surgery related, the wrapping pain is gone.

Well it has been almost 4 months. I am very happy I did the surgery. The wrapping pain is gone. I had issues with cut on side, it has burst open in 3 spots and blood all over. I did recently have an infection but the pig tail of the internal stitch finally came out. I think this has caused my issues. I still have pain. I am down to 5 pain tablets a day but some days that does not cut it as I can barely stay standing due to pain. It is slowly getting better. The doctor said he is taking it slow and will continue to wean me off. He said its more important to be comfortable and realize this will take a full year for recovery. It is nice to not be pushed and know they are ok with taking the slow and easy approach.

I think my next time I get pain tablets they will cut the dose. I asked for less strength but instead have ability to take more frequently so it is spread out over the day. He agreed and said next time I am out he will adjust.

I know the fusion is taking well.

I am happy and feeling pretty good. Will update again in a month or so.

Also, the spam filter is very restrictive. I have to edit my post 3 to 4 times before it will submit.

First- I agree this website filter is very restrictive as I have had to rewrite my own posts. I am told by my internet chief that these filters have to be “tight” as to prevent spammers from taking over.

Your recovery is about spot on. Your pain is lessened but not gone at four months. You are satisfied so far with your progress. You have been reducing your medication. You are probably increasing your activity level at this point.

At about 6-8 months, you should have further relief and be back to many of your prior denied activities.

Please continue to keep in touch.

I am definately happy with progress. I keep moving daily doing as much as possible without pushing to the extreme.

My doctor says at 8 months he will remove restrictions down so I can do more. I should be able to start cardio low impact. I did start physical therapy, just massage and ultrasound. They said I am moving along well.

It sounds like I will always have pain to manage but it will be much less intense and to manage.
