    Hi,

I am 5 weeks post op from having a lumbar microdiscectomy. Before my surgery I had debilitating pain in my left butt check & leg. I had my procedure and one week later had the same surgery again (I re-herniated). Since my 2nd surgery I have been doing so well. Yesterday I started experiencing pain in my left butt check. It’s onky present when I sit & lay down. No leg pain – all in my butt check. The pain isn’t so severe that I can’t sit. It is more mild discomfort. Could I have re-herniated again or go this be inflammation?

Looking forward to your reply. Thank you in advance!

This could be residual nerve inflammation but a post-op seroma (fluid collection) or even a recurrent herniation are possible. If you were my patient, I would advise the next step using an oral short course steroid. If no significant improvement, then a new MRI. If seroma or small recurrent HNP, the an aspiration and steroid injection.
