my mother 46 years old. she has been diagnosed through MRI done last week for Lumbo Sacral Spine. Her report of MRI is pasted below and I wanted to ask-
Do I absolutely need a surgery? Or I have other alternatives?
Findings:
1. Reduced L4-L5, L5-S1 disc signal intensity. there is diffused disc buldge at L4-L5, L5-S1 level, indenting anterior thecal sac and narrowing both nneural foramens. L5-S1 AP canal is top normal.
2. vertebrae show normal size, signal, intensity and alignment
3. conus medullaries ends at L1 level
4. Lower dorsal cord is normal in size and signal intensity
5. facet joint and ligamentum flavum are normal.
6. paraspinal muscle and soft tissues are normal in size and shape with normal signal intensityL1-L2 Canal APD is 15.3mm
L2-L3 Canal APD is 15.0mm
L3-L4 Canal APD is 14.2mm
L4-L5 Canal APD is 12.2mm
L5-S1 Canal APD is 11.0mmFirst-MRIs have to be correlated to symptoms. You must relay the symptoms your mother experiences. Then the symptoms have to be tied into the MRI findings (which are not too bad according to the radiologist) sometimes by further testings and physical examination.
